Cords of changes
Cords of Change
In the heart of Kenya, where the struggle against poverty and limited access to education is a daily battle for many underprivileged children, a beacon of hope emerges. The Cords of Change project under Kosi Africa takes on the challenge head-on, aiming to address the pressing issues of poverty and lack of education that afflict these young minds. This initiative is designed to create a ripple effect, bringing positive change in both rural and urban areas of the country.
Our project focuses on the crucial areas of poverty and education among underprivileged children in Kenya. The primary obstacle faced by many of these children is the inability to attend school due to financial constraints. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Cords of Change has identified a critical need for practical income-generating skills that can not only provide economic independence but also support their educational aspirations.
How does Cords of Change work?
In Kenya, the harsh reality is that approximately 2 million children find themselves excluded from the educational system due to financial constraints. The repercussions of unmet educational needs among these children are far-reaching, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and limiting opportunities for a brighter future. The Cords of Change program seeks to break this cycle by empowering underprivileged children with practical skills that not only sustain them economically but also foster a path towards education.
Cords of Change has developed a comprehensive training program centered around crochet craftsmanship. This initiative aims to empower underprivileged students with the skills (crocheting, knitting, bag production and mat making)
These skills are necessary to create products that serve as a stepping stone towards economic independence and, consequently, supporting their education.
The crochet craftsmanship program implemented by Cords of Change is not merely about teaching a skill; it's about providing a lifeline to those who need it the most. By equipping underprivileged students with the ability to create marketable products, we are enabling them to be architects of their destiny. The skills acquired through this program not only provide a means of income but also instill a sense of pride and self-sufficiency.
The Impact of Cords of Change
The impact of the Cords of Change program extends beyond the individual to the community and, ultimately, the nation. By breaking the chains of poverty for these underprivileged children, we aim to contribute to the creation of empowered, self-sufficient communities. Furthermore, as these students become successful artisans and entrepreneurs, they, in turn, become ambassadors for change, inspiring others to follow suit.
Cords of Change stands as a testament to the transformative power of education and practical skills. Through the art of crochet craftsmanship, we believe we can be a catalyst for change, offering a pathway out of poverty for underprivileged children in Kenya. This program not only provides tangible skills but also fosters hope and resilience, ensuring that the next generation has the tools they need to craft their own destinies. So far Cords of Change under Kosi Africa have initiated the project in 8 schools, positively impacting 132 students and 18 teachers consisting of 39 boys and 93 girls.
